Other Fun Stuff | Activities

In addition to lure coursing and agility, RRED offers members and non-members several fun and educational activities through out the year.  Below is a list of some of our activities:

Canine Good Citizen

The CGC is a certification program run by the American Kennel Club (AKC) that is designed to reward dogs that have good manners at home and in the community.  The Canine Good Citizen Program stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic good manners for dogs.  All dogs that pass the CGC test receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club and as of Jan. 1, 1999, they are automatically recorded in the AKC's Canine Good Citizen Archive.  See AKC website at http://www.akc.org/love/cgc/index.cfm.

Therapy Dog (TDI)

Therapy Dogs International, Inc. (TDI) is a volunteer group organized to provide qualified handlers and their Therapy Dogs for visitations to institutions, facilities, and any other place where Therapy Dogs are needed.

The primary objective of the TDI dog and handler is to provide comfort and companionship by sharing the dog with the patients in hospitals, nursing homes and other institutions and wherever else the Therapy Dog is needed. This is done in a way that increases emotional well being, promotes healing, and improves the quality of life for the people being visited and the staff that cares for these people.  For more information please visit TDI at http://www.tdi-dog.org/training.htm.
