Saturday, January 25, 2003, Fun Lure Coursing
About 15 hardy dogs braved a cold and grey day
to chase the "bunny". They got to enjoy a course that was
expanded using our new extra pulleys.
Saturday January 18, 2003, Winter Party and Fish Fry and Annual General Meeting
We enjoyed a winter gathering at Bill and Donna Lewis’ country home in Wylie!
a large group of dogs came and played and generally had fun. The club
provided fried fish and hush puppies and cold drinks. This meeting constituted RRED's annual
general meeting and a new slate of club officers was voted in.
Saturday, November 16 2002, Fun Lure Coursing
22 dogs and their owners came for a lure
coursing on a cool cloudy day. We used our new "jack-a-lure" (a
more realistic "varmit-like" lure) to help
new dogs get an interest in the "bunny".
Saturday, April 20, 2002, Agility Workshop and Fun Day
About twelve dogs and their owners turned out on a
fine April day for an agility training session led by RRED's new agility
chairperson, Jana Holley. It was held at a new location, the ranch of our
president, Bill Lewis. The basics of agility were covered and each dog got
to become acquainted with the various pieces of equipment and run a
mini-course. Afterwards all the dogs (and owners) got to play in and
around the lake on the Lewis ranch.
Saturday, March 16, 2002, Fun Lure Coursing
19 dogs and their owners came for a lure
coursing on a cool cloudy day. We had
several young dogs and numerous first timers, including three border
collies and a Chinese Crested who instantly focused on the lure and gave a
wonderful run. We're considering getting a "jackalure" to help
new dogs get an interest in the "bunny".
Saturday, December 8, 2001, Fun Lure Coursing
Over 20 dogs and their owners showed up on a
blustery day for what turned out to be a fine lure coursing. We had
several first timers, including two ridgeback puppies, and most quickly
got the idea of chasing the "bunny'. This was a fun and satisfying
event for all.
Saturday, November 3, 2001, Agility Workshop and Fun
Day
Eighteen dogs and their owners turned out on a
warm November day for an agility training session led by RRED's agility
chairperson, Terri Schmidt. She broke the dog-handler teams into groups
according to their level of agility experience and led each group in
exercises designed to improve the coordination between dog and person.
Then the groups began rotating between running on 4 mini-courses that were
set up, allowing for practice of different combinations of obstacles. We
got a very positive response from the participants and will hold this
event again (If we can keep the cows from invading the field and stomping
on our equipment, as happened during a thunderstorm this summer).
Saturday October 13, 2001, Lure Coursing Fun Run.
We were happy to have a good turnout after the
heavy storms of the night before. Several new dogs were introduced to the
joys of chasing the "bunny" (really a plastic trash bag). A
potential new champion or two was spotted.
Potluck
Cook-Out & Dog Party
Sunday September 9, 2001 at EastFork Springs Farm, 4:00-8:00 PM
This was a truly wonderful event. A
large group of dogs and their owners came to relax and enjoy a
friendly cookout and potluck dinner at Bill and Donna Lewis’ country
home in Wylie! About 20 dogs (mostly ridgebacks, but several other breeds
also) got to play as a pack and get spectacularly muddy in the Lewis'
pond. A dog games and a stupid pet tricks contest were held. Believe it or
not the counter-surfing competition was won not by a ridgeback but by a
poodle!. A long walk around the fields in the excellent weather provided
an appropriate ending to a very good evening.
Saturday June 2, 2001, Lure Coursing Fun Run
24 dogs and their people came out on this warm
late spring morning to enjoy a lure coursing fun run at Hudson
middle school in Sachse. A good time was had by all, especially the
ridgebacks who had a very impressive group howl while waiting their turn
to chase the lure. If you have any
questions about lure coursing, call
Robin Coley
at 972-699-0798. There will be more coursing in the fall.
Saturday April 7, 2001, Lure Coursing Fun Run
Everyone had a great if somewhat soggy time. The
light rain kept temperatures cool and didn't stop over 25 dogs from
chasing the "bunny" (really a white trash bag for those not
familiar with lure coursing).

Workshop/Agility Fun Day
On the morning of Saturday, May 20 RRED is held an agility workshop and "fun day" at the Bozman farm in Wylie.
For those who haven’t seen it, the sport of agility consists in guiding
your dog over a course made up of a set of obstacles such as tunnels,
weave poles, ramps, and jumps. RRED has some
new agility equipment and we're all anxious to try it out. Terri Schmidt offered an introduction to agility for those first timers who have
wanted to try it. Call Robin
